This year’s election is a biggie for Congress, the state Legislature and Salt Lake County. But for those of us focused on Salt Lake City politics, it’s a snooze. In that arena, the big ticket is next year’s mayoral election, already shaping up to be a brawl. Previously, incumbent Mayor Erin Mendenhall had said she would not seek reelection.
After all, third terms are notoriously difficult to win—just ask Ralph Becker and Rocky Anderson. But she is now on the record as “seriously considering” another run and, according to rampant gossip, quite seriously considering it behind closed doors.
