Before entering the world of journalism, I had for some time entertained the notion of becoming a teacher. The longer I pictured myself within academic circles, however, the less convinced I became of my suitability—my tendency to tedious disquisition notwithstanding.
It takes both fortitude and patience to do what a good teacher does day in and day out, particularly when the teacher, the students and other interested parties often encounter friction with each other throughout the process. The act of learning itself can be remarkably difficult for us mortals.
