It's hard to believe, but legal marijuana sales are sharply down in Colorado. Talk about a downer. It's not necessarily that all the tokers are going straight. It's complicated. There's competition from nearby states that also have legalized recreational hemp, there's an oversupply of weed and Colorado imposed taxes higher than other states.
In 2021, cannabis sales totaled $2.2 billion in Colorado. Last year, they plummeted to $1.3 billion and tax revenue was down 44%. Dispensaries are closing all over the place, along with greenhouses.
