The fountains on Washington Square are currently shut off for maintenance work. Wes Long The fountains on Washington Square are not flowing these days—and not because of Utah’s ongoing drought. Typically in operation from Memorial through Labor Day, they are in the midst of a maintenance project to replace old infrastructure.
“Like any water feature, these fountains experience wear from constant water exposure, aging pipes and plumbing, leaves and debris,” a Salt Lake City spokesperson told City Weekly .
