Growing up, there was a massive tree in my neighbor’s yard. I’ve had terrible vision my whole life, and every time I got new glasses I would stand at the window looking at that tree—taking my glasses off and putting them back on, over and over. I remember how the leaves were breathtaking—sharp, crisp edges; the bright shade of green.
Every detail stood out as if it had been waiting for me to see. Decades later, I still have a tree. It is a Catalpa, planted by a stranger in the park strip outside my home.
