Salt Lake City residents chafe at Council’s expanded police budget, apartment building sale.

The Salt Lake City Council approved a million-dollar budget amendment on Tuesday, granting the city Police Department a “mobile command center.” The Council also gifted the historic Northwest Pipeline building to a real estate development firm for its conversion to housing.

Northwest Pipeline Development The Council approved the sale of the Northwest Pipeline building at 321 E. 200 South to Housing Assistance Management Enterprise (HAME). In conjunction with Xylem Projects and the Common Ground Institute, the former public safety building is planned to be converted into 196 apartments.
