Benjamin Wood A recent surge in law enforcement around the weekly 999 critical mass bike ride saw the Salt Lake City Police Department utilizing one-third of its on-duty roster, plus drone surveillance and overtime shifts, according to department spokesmen.
SLCPD chief of staff Glen Mills said Friday that on a typical Thursday night, there are 125 officers on duty. On June 4, 36 of those officers were assigned to monitor the 999, as well as two officers working overtime at a supplemental cost of $600.
