New federal housing rules require a money trail for all-cash home sales.

There’s a new Federal Government Residential Real Estate Rule (FinCEN—the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network) that has introduced two major sets of reporting rules to stop money laundering and “shell company” secrets. For most buyers and sellers, this won’t come into play unless the transactions are “all cash” (non-financed) sales of residential properties (1 to 4 units, condos, or vacant land for homes).

Simply stated, if you buy a home as an individual or couple with a new mortgage, these new rules don’t apply to your transaction.
