Calls for criminal justice reform at SLC Council overshadow Library union, cathedral preservation.

February is Black History Month in Salt Lake City, established on Tuesday via joint ceremonial resolution between the Salt Lake City Council and Mayor’s office. “The heritage, perseverance and achievements of Black Americans reflect an ongoing American struggle for equality and justice,” Councilmember Sarah Young read from the resolution, “and recognizing this history strengthens our collective understanding of who we are as a society.”
NAACP Salt Lake President Jeanetta Williams accepted the resolution alongside chapter Vice President James Yapias. “The work continues,” Yapias said.
