Late Fame *** Arnold Schnitzler’s turn-of-the-20th-century novella makes for a wonderful central concept in the adaptation by director Kent Jones and screenwriter Samy Burch, with a pair of terrific performances making up for a somewhat schematic execution of that premise.
Willem Dafoe plays Ed Saxberger, a one-time poet in the 1970s New York scene who has spent anonymous decades as a postal worker, before a young would-be writer named Meyers (Edmund Donovan) discovers Saxberger’s one published book of poetry, and invites him into his circle of aspiring intellectuals.
