A traveling exhibition combines with local stories to celebrate the ongoing demands of democracy.
Democracy can be an abstract concept, but every town, city or village has its own story within the national context of American democracy. West Valley City, for example, only 46 years ago demonstrated its own act of local democracy after a back-and-forth battle to get the city officially incorporated.
In February 1980, by a mere 72 vote margin, West Valley City was born—now Utah’s second largest city, and its only minority-majority municipality. That story is just one example of the power in civic engagement, and how we can all work to bring our dreams for our communities to life.
