When Brigham Young declared, “This is the place,” he wasn’t considering people like me. He opined that servitude was justifiable in an address to the Utah Territorial Legislature in 1852. His contemporaries in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were at odds about slavery—on the fence, if you will.
