In its final meeting of the year on Tuesday, the Salt Lake City Council bid adieu to retiring member Darin Mano and deferred action on controversial license plate reader cameras. A budget amendment item would have accepted a $224,000 grant from the Department of Justice to install the cameras on “major roads,” with the goal of enhancing public security. But more than one dozen residents came before the council to argue against implementation.
